What is a music distributor?

A music distributor is the company that delivers a track or album to streaming platforms and digital stores on behalf of an artist or label. When you see a song on Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube Music, a distributor (or the label itself) is usually responsible for getting it there and collecting royalties.

Common distributors include TuneCore, DistroKid, CD Baby, Believe Music, and the major label groups such as Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group.

Why would I need to find a song's distributor?

Knowing the distributor can help with:

  1. Rights research: Identify who may control or administer the recording when clearing samples or negotiating licenses.
  2. Catalog management: Labels and artists can verify which partner delivered a release to stores.
  3. Competitive analysis: See which distribution services other artists in your genre are using.
  4. Contact and support: When a release has metadata or delivery issues, the distributor is often the first point of contact.

How does this tool work?

Paste a link to a track on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, or another supported platform, or search by song title. We look up the track via the Musicfetch API and match supplier identifiers from platforms like Spotify and YouTube against our distributor catalog to return the distributor name.

Not every track has distributor metadata available. Independent releases, older catalog, or tracks missing supplier data may not return a result.
